Colorado National Monument Elopement

Caitlin & Alastair had a winter elopement in Colorado National Monument. Not a lot of people know about this beautiful location in western Colorado! It is located just outside of Grand Junction & has some unique desert landscapes. While Colorado is definitely known for its mountains, especially the San Juan Mountains of western Colorado, there are some beautiful deserts here in Colorado. The Great Sand Dunes are another favorite desert of mine in Colorado.

Sunrise Elopement Ceremony in Colorado National Monument

I had camped in Colorado National Monument the night before & it got a whole lot of rain the day before their elopement. Luckily it doesn’t often rain at sunrise so we didn’t have any of that cold rain to deal with the day of their elopement near Grand Junction. However, all the moisture from the night prior did make it very foggy in the morning. We had to change locations of their ceremony due to the fog! We kinda were chased around Colorado National Monument by the fog & kept moving to different spots that were clearer with better views. The thing I do love about fog though is that it can add a lot of character & mood to your elopement photos. We got a little bit of everything when it came to weather & even ventured into some snow. Later during their elopement day it even cleared up & warmed up for a sunny hike in Devil’s Kitchen!
