Bracing for the impact of a wave in Cancun, Mexico

I had the privilege to go to Mexico for a month and it was definitely worth all the effort it took. It helped my Spanish a little but it is still very limited. I didn’t just go to the tourist part of Mexico, I traveled all around central Mexico. I started in the mountainous region near Guanajuato, and also went to Santa Rosa and Léon.

Guanajuato is a beautiful city full of character and color. It is a very old city with narrow winding streets made of stone. And some streets are very steep. The market is full of vendors with fresh flowers, hand crafts, and freshly baked goods. There is also a great little coffee shop called Cafè Tal that you can’t miss if you go.

After the mountains I was headed for the coast. First up was Mèrida, a very large historic city. It was my base to travel to the surrounding areas. I went to many cenotes around Holum, saw flamingoes and many other uncommon and rare birds at Celestùn and got to eat some of their locally caught shrimp, and swam at the beach near Progresso. After a month I was quite tan. I was a little sad but also a little glad to come back. I’m glad I got to have that experience.
